The Hyde Park Hot Five has played nearly all the 4th on 53rd celebrations since 1992! Founded by long-time Hyde Parker Stephen Thomas, the band has featured such luminaries as the late great Jimmy Ellis, as well as trumpeter Paul Bass. Under the direction of bassist Andrew Basa, the Hyde Park Hot Five continues to play traditional jazz to audiences all over the Chicagoland.

Zion Ali is a singer, songwriter, and youth advocate dedicated to inspiring his community through music and positive action. Blending soulful vocals with uplifting messages, he uses his platform to empower young people and promote unity. Zion has performed at the Bud Billiken Parade, Universoul Circus, and schools all over Chicago, sharing his voice on some of the city’s biggest stages.

ROH utilizes jump rope as a means to foster healthy living, promote educational excellence and personal development. ROH Double Dutch teaches youths 6-18 basic Double Dutch technique, as well as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, good decision-making, and how to build and maintain healthy relationships.

Performing pieces from the school repertoire including classical ballet, modern dance, and student choreography.

The Hyde Park Suzuki Institute was founded in 1998 to bring the joy of music to children through the teaching methods of those who have proven through experience and research the exceptional learning ability of the young child.

Black Girls Jump is a grassroots organization dedicated to empowering communities through Double Dutch. Since our founding, we’ve impacted thousands of lives, preserving a cultural tradition while fostering fitness, connection, and joy.
